A Guide To Kegs

If you’ve only filled up your Solo cup at a house party, but never bought the keg yourself, they may seem intimidating. Luckily, we make the process super easy. Here’s how it works:
First, pick out your keg! We have a huge selection of craft beer as well as your usual suspects like Bud Light, Yuengling, PBR, etc. You can either come in the store or check out our selection online. The keg lists are updated weekly and we’re always happy to reserve one over the phone. To see our keg lists as well as what’s on tap for either location, visit us at www.shopbottles.com. Click on the “Products” tab at the top of the page, then select “Beer” from the drop-down menu. Then, just click on your location to view the menu. All available sizes are listed as well as prices. If you don’t see anything you like on our menu, give us a call! We’re happy to try and special order anything for you, as long as it is available through our distributors.

Once you have your keg picked out, it’s a good idea to give us a call to reserve it if you’re not in the store. Sometimes they go fast especially if it’s a holiday weekend or a special keg. When you get to the store, just tell one of our associates you’re here to pick up a keg. If it’s reserved, they’ll bring it up for you. If you need to pick one out, just head back to the keg cooler located in the back of the store where it says “Come on in!” We’re happy to help get your keg for you, or if you want to hulk out on your own, we have hand trucks available back by the cooler.

Now the not so fun part– paying. When you get up to the register, the cashier will need your I.D. They will fill out your registration form for you, and you will need to sign the bottom. This form basically says you the keg is your responsibility, and if you choose to waste your beer on underage folks, or over- serve someone, it isn’t on us! They will put an orange tag on your keg. DO NOT TAKE THIS OFF. This is how we lookup your information when you bring the keg back and get you your deposits back. If you take it off, we can’t take your keg back… so don’t… please.

Deposits you say? There is a $50 deposit on all keg shells. If you need a tap, that’s a $50-$100 deposit too, depending on what tap you need. We also rent keg buckets for $30. Basically if you get the whole shabang, you get $130-$180 back when you return these items. When you return your keg, the return may not show up on your card for a few days. This is because of your bank, not us. Please don’t yell at us. If it takes longer than five business days, give us a call and we’ll be happy to check on that for you…just please don’t yell…

How much beer is in your keg? A lot. Plan accordingly. No matter how many times we try to explain to people you do not need four half kegs for a weekend at the beach house, without fail two come back not even tapped. Unfortunately, we can’t take those back. They’ve been God knows where, and we would love to trust everyone, but we don’t know if they’ve been tapped or not. Here’s something to help:
1/2 barrel = 15.5 gallons = 124 pints = 165 12oz bottles – (Full Size Keg)
1/4 barrel = 7.75 gallons = 62 pints = 83 12oz bottles (Pony Keg)
1/6 barrel (20 Ltr) = 5.2 gallons = 41 pints = 55 12oz bottles (Sixtel)

We also have solo cups, beer bongs, ice, and beer pong balls available! Come see us in Mt. Pleasant at 610 Coleman Boulevard or 4410 Fort Jackson Boulevard in Columbia.
