Behind the Bar at Cane Rhum Bar: Scott Bailey

Every month, we’re teaming up with one of our restaurant or bar partners to bring you a Bottles cocktail of the month. November’s cocktail, the Passioned Old Fashioned, comes from Scott Bailey of Cane Rhum Bar. Get to know the pro behind the bar with our quick Q&A for Scott:

Name: Scott Bailey

Hometown: I grew up in a little town, outside of the Greenville / Spartanburg area, called Moore, S.C.

Years of Experience Behind the Bar: While I have only been behind the bar for around three years now, I have been in restaurants for almost seven years now.

Establishment that made you want to bartend: As for the place that truly gave me a desire and passion for bartending, I would have to say it was the old Blind Tiger, before the renovations, that really stands out in my mind. The staff was always friendly, inviting, very informative and helpful for a curious mind.

Strangest drink order you’ve ever received: As far as the strangest drink order ever requested, there really isn’t one. As a good friend and mentor once said, “give the people what they want, dummy.” Good bartenders not only serve, but educate. If I had to pick one though, it was probably for a “perfect dirty bourbon martini.” And yes, it was every bit as foul as it sounds, but the older gentleman that ordered it not only enjoyed it, but told me it was one of the best he’d had and promptly ordered another.

What you drink at the end of a long shift: After a long night, I either go for a rum and coconut water or a good old fashioned screwdriver, and of course the obligatory shot of Rumplemintz. I like to keep it simple and easy for my bartender. What can I say, I sympathize after making 40 mojitos a night.

Desert Island Drink of Choice: If I ever were to be stuck on a desert island, all I would ask for is a nice grove of palm trees and a bottle of good rum of course.

Passioned Old Fashioned is a little sweet, a little spicy – a well balanced cocktail that’s made with Mexican rum. The perfect way to feel like you’re somewhere tropical as the weather gets cooler. Stop by Cane Rhum Bar to try it, and visit Bottles Mt. Pleasant through the end of December to pick up the ingredients and a recipe card to recreate the Passioned Old Fashioned at home. Cheers!
